 HAIR | Going Vibrant Violet!

So, I did a bit of a thing last week. After being blonde for the last four years, I suddenly felt the urge to change up my hair. Drastically! I went a bit darker last year by opting for “mushroom blonde” and after seeing an Instagram post on Toby Does Hair (he did my hair last year) for “Vibrant Violet”in July, I immediately felt the need to have this hair!

You may recall all of my fun hair colours when I was an Aveda Ambassador and then I sort of calmed down after the trend of unicorn hair died. Then the stylist I was seeing at Civello when I was an ambassador moved to a Civello location REALLY far away from me and while I still went to JT for three years after his move, I hated the drive. I found Toby through my friend Gerry and he is based out of Cult Salon which is like a block away from my work so the convenience was a huge plus, BUT he is also an Asian Hair Specialist (Aveda trained) so I know I am in good hands!

I think the closest I have come to purple hair is when I did “Oil Slick Hair”, but even that still had my black hair as a base. This is truly violet all over and I feel kind of like a superhero! As you can see from the before photo below, it is QUITE the change! Even in terms of how much length I cut, I removed about 8 inches!

The colour looks very bright in my work lighting and then more subtle at home. What I am struggling with at the moment is how to style it as I usually use a flat iron to curl my hair. Now, that my hair is shorter, it’s a bit more challenging so I might have to switch to a curling wand instead. Ideally, I would like to master heatless curls as I would like to minimize the amount of heat I subject my hair to as the colour disappears more quickly.

This is the colour of my first hair wash and it is still pretty violet! Parts of my scalp are still very much purple as is my towel, but I think in a few more washes I will finally stop bleeding violet! The colour will eventually fade out into an ashy blonde which I am totally fine with, but I want to enjoy the violet for as long as possible so I have violet-depositing conditioner coming tomorrow and I am going to attempt to learn how to use the other brushes in my Dyson Air Wrap kit!
It has been a bit of a rough year and it felt really good to shed the length and the old colour. I also feel like I have a bit more “sass” with the shade of hair so I look forward to maybe having a bit more attitude in my daily life!

Here’s to having some fun with makeup and unearthing all of my purple blushes and eyeshadows!
